After allowing a few minutes for the anesthetic to take effect, the surgeon will make a small incision.
Once the incision has been made, your doctor will begin cutting along the wire, moving towards the abnormality located at the end.
You will feel some tugging and pulling – but you should not feel any sharp pain. If you do, please tell the doctor and you will be given more anesthetic.
Once the specimen is removed, the doctor may have it x-rayed in order to determine whether or not the correct tissue has been removed. Very rarely, the doctor may decide, based on this x-ray, to remove additional tissue. Y
our doctor and nurse will remove the guide wire and close the skin over the incision as neatly and as cosmetically as they are able.
Finally, a sterile dressing is applied. Your specimen will be sent immediately to a lab for microscopic analysis. Your doctor will tell you when to expect result from those tests. Patient Education

The Roosevelt Elementary School District, located in the Phoenix Schools area on the south side of the city, is in serious trouble. The primarily low-income district has been dealing with turmoil for years, and the possible takeover by the Arizona Department of Education only exacerbates the situation.
Last December, Arizona Department of Education held a meeting in one of Roosevelt’s school gyms to present the situation to all concerned. Over 200 parents, teachers and other community members were present as Arizona Schools Chief Tom Horne, flanked by 25 of his top staff members, laid out the Phoenix schools Roosevelt district’s problems. Five members of the Phoenix schools Roosevelt district board were present.
Horne, a Harvard-trained lawyer, did not mince his words as he presented slide after slide and graph after graph that illustrated the large negative numbers that concerned this Phoenix schools district. Many in attendance were visibly stunned by the enormity of the situation with which they and the district are faced.
One point that Horne hammered home to the five Phoenix schools’ Roosevelt district board members present, as well as the audience, was that other school districts were doing much better with similar resources. Three neighboring Phoenix schools’ districts have just as many impoverished families as the Roosevelt district. They have just as many students with English as a second language, who need the extra time, resources and coursework to learn English in order to succeed in the Phoenix schools. Yet, these three Phoenix schools’ districts have between 64 and 78 percent of their students performing at grade level in math for the third grade, with Roosevelt at 45 percent; and 62 and 72 percent in reading, with Roosevelt at 34 percent. The same is true in the other score measurements. In all 27 separate measurements, Roosevelt is substantially below the other three comparable Phoenix schools’ districts. That is nearly double the number of students showing academic achievement, as compared to Roosevelt. (You may view Horne’s graphs at: http://www.ade.az.gov/administration/superintendent/articles/RooseveltDistrictSpeech.pdf.)
What really hit home for the people in attendance is that Roosevelt receives per student funding above the state average, yet no other district in the state has performed so poorly. In 2005, the Arizona Department of Education ranked 10 of the Roosevelt schools as “underperforming”. The district has only 21 schools. This was an unprecedented amount of “underperforming” schools in the Phoenix schools area.
Things must improve rapidly for the Phoenix schools’ district. Otherwise, the state will take over the district and all its schools. Horne is applying pressure to overhaul the district’s practices and replace ineffective personnel. Meanwhile, Horne has called for legislation to allow the state to take over entire districts and school boards for poor student performance.
The Roosevelt district has taken the threat of takeover by Horne to heart. This year, they have initiated many major changes, including:
• New and innovative practices;
• District educators are working together to develop a guaranteed and viable curriculum;
• Teachers at all levels are involved in curriculum mapping, which helps a teacher understand what standards to teach students and when to teach them;
• A standards-based progress report now replaces the number grade reporting system, helping teachers and parents understand the language of standards and create a consistency between district reports and the results of the statewide test; and
• A comprehensive curriculum guide was developed and implemented that includes standards and a curriculum pacing calendar.
Only time (and a very short time, at that) will tell if these changes will be enough to elevate the Phoenix schools’ Roosevelt district’s underperforming schools. If not, then the district will be under new management — the state.

Safety tips in Cosmetic Plastic Surgery
The things that you should consider when planning any cosmetic surgery procedure are results, quality and safety. The following article is prepared, in order to educate and guide prospective clients in cosmetic surgery on how to choose the right surgeon to attain their goal.
1. Any surgery with the main purpose of improving the physical aspect of the human body aesthetically, as well as function, is an artistic challenge for us plastic surgeons, and should be a worthwhile experience for the patient. All cosmetic procedures, minor or major, should be done according to certain standards imposed and set by local authorities, in terms of safety. Once your goal is obtained after the procedure, this brings emotional fulfillment and satisfaction to both the surgeon and the person seeking the procedure. But patient’s safety and health should be the main priority of your surgeon.
2. Inquire about your surgeon’s academic profile and formal training in the field of cosmetic/aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgery. It takes 6 to 8 years of formal training in burns, aesthetic and reconstructive surgery at an accredited institution after medical school before a physician could call himself a Plastic Surgeon. This would include 3 to 5 years of General Surgery Program and 3 years of Burns, Cosmetic/Aesthetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery training. In the Philippines, there are only few training institutions with plastic surgery program that are accredited and recognized by the local association of surgeons (Philippine College of Surgeons, Philippine Board of Plastic and Philippine Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons). Nowadays, there are still a lot of doctors (even non doctors), though board certified, but definitely not in plastic surgery, who perform plastic procedures. With the complexity of the plastic surgery specialty, it is not enough for a physician to just undergo months or even a year of observership or training in an unaccredited establishment, in order for them to comprehend all the principles and applications in the field of plastic cosmetic surgery.
3. A surgeon, equipped with a firm foundation in Cosmetic/Aesthetic Plastic Surgery should be able to evaluate whether you are a good candidate for the surgery you are considering. He must be able to discuss with you, all possible options and its associated risks and advice you which procedure is best to attain your desired results. If there are less invasive or non-surgical procedures that could fulfill your needs, your surgeon should be knowledgeable about this and be able to tell you its advantages and disadvantages. Please be aware that there is no such thing as standard cosmetic procedure that would fulfill the desired result of all patients. Each patient should be approach and treated individually, since we have our own personal definition of beauty.
4. Do not look for the cheapest doctor, more so ,do not be deceived by unrealistic offer. Know your surgeon’s training and academic profile. Take note of his offer, if it is safe and attainable. You could inquire from any physicians’ association, regarding the authenticity of your surgeon’s specialty or training; lastly, ask friends and previous patients regarding his credentials. Try visiting their website, if he has one. Your surgeon must be able to provide you details of his training, specialization and the number of years he underwent training.
5. Your surgeon must be able to extensively discuss with you all your possible options. Don’t hesitate to ask questions, a good plastic surgeon must be able to entertain all your inquiries regarding your desired procedure. Through this, the surgeon can establish rapport with their patients and establish a comfortable environment.
6. Don’t allow yourself to undergo liquid silicon injection at your nose, breasts, or any part of your body. The use of silicon oil injection has long been abandoned and condemned because of its unpredictable result and complications, not to mention its untoward results such as extrusion and infection. Your doctor must be able to provide you data or clinical study regarding the use and safety of the product he is trying to promote.
7. Don’t be attracted to newer procedures, drugs and prosthetics without proven long term studies with regards to result, efficacy and safety. Inquire about its approval for use by local and foreign regulatory agency such as US-FDA, Department of Health, etc. Take into consideration the quality, safety and efficacy rather than the cost.
8. Take note if your surgeon’s clinic or cosmetic center were able to meet certain standard of safety and certified by the local Health Department. But be informed, that there are certain procedures that are best done in a hospital setting.
9. Ask your surgeon regarding affiliations or membership to any local Plastic Surgery organization that is recognized by both local and international body of Plastic Surgeons. In the Philippines, only the Philippine Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons under the umbrella of the Philippine College of Surgeon is recognized internationally by other foreign Plastic Society. This organization usually require their members certain standard in terms of training and competence in their specialty.

At a time when new poker books are pouring onto store shelves, Dennis Purdy is the first author to offer a unique approach to learning poker with The Illustrated Guide to Texas Hold’Em. The former gambling pro uses a visual problem-solving approach rather than a textual approach at teaching poker strategy.
The first three chapters of the guide start off very similarly to many beginner books on the poker market, covering the basic rules of how to play Hold’Em, what you might wear to a table, how much you should buy-in for and some rules of good poker etiquette. The fourth chapter presents eight brief rules of ‘good basic poker strategy’ followed by a detailed explanation of actual odds and pot odds. Chapter five is where this book becomes unique as the next 300 pages are filled with 150 different, illustrated Texas Hold’Em poker scenarios, matched with the author’s answer to each of the practice situations! Purdy ends the book with a noteworthy 30 page poker terminology glossary.
The cover indicates that this guide may make a winner out of an advanced player but this book was really designed to captivate those unlikely readers that shy away from the other poker books already published. The introduction warns that this book is not ‘targeted towards sophisticated and knowledgeable players’, and I would agree. Advanced players will find too many examples stating the obvious like situation #2: folding 27 offsuit before the flop.
Purdy’s advice is mostly in-line with most other poker authors however there are certainly some debatable answers to a few of his problems (i.e. Problem #46 suggests to cap the betting with 36s pre-flop?). There is often more than one correct way to play any individual poker hand however I sometimes found myself wondering why Purdy would suggest such advanced plays, especially since these situations can be easily misinterpreted by new players. The intention of this guide may have been to give definitive situational advice to poker scenarios, however, I suggest that readers actually place more importance on the general strategy advice given in the answers rather than the specific action to take. It’s really the whole strategic approach you take to the game that will make the most difference in your results.
The visual representation of each of the poker situations is by far this book’s greatest asset. I personally know readers to have picked up this book after ignoring the other acclaimed texts on the premise of its simple and fun-looking learning method. Another quality point is that no commitment is needed as the reader can easily review a couple pages and put the book back down again without losing the value of the material. The teaching pattern also follows through with its ideas, enabling the reader to encounter the same notions and strategies in various problems throughout the book (for example, each of situations #17, #38 & #148 address folding small pocket pairs in early position before the flop).
Due to the popular nature of problem solving game books, this style of teaching poker is expected to appeal to many players and will most likely be adopted in more books to come. Like many books of its nature, The Illustrated guide to Texas Hold’Em is not recommended as the only book to teach you sound poker strategy, but as a visual practice supplement for those players not interested in studying the more technical texts. Readers that insist on keeping the fun and excitement first and foremost in their poker education will appreciate this chance to learn without being bogged down with abstract concepts or complicated terminology.

The case for a desktop:
Basically, desktops give you better performance for the buck. Budget desktops start at around $300-$400 (LCD monitor included) while the cheapest laptops will cost you at least $100 more. Desktops are easier to upgrade manually than laptops, and are harder to steal. They also tend to be more reliable than laptops, which are moved around often and are more prone to failure. Desktops also support multiple monitors easily, which may be important for hardcore programmers. Finally, serious gamers may prefer high-end desktops for the performance, especially when it comes to supporting the newest graphics cards. Overall, desktops give a better deal for raw computing power and better reliability, with support for multiple monitors.
The case for a laptop:
The main advantage of laptops is portability, which can be a huge plus for college students. Moving in and moving out out a dorm, house, or apartment with a laptop are obviously much easier than with a desktop. Your laptop will take up much less desk space than a desktop, even assuming you have a LCD monitor for the desktop. Most universities are going wireless, so having a laptop to carry around campus means you can get Internet access pretty much all over. You can also use it to take notes in class, and depending on the kind of laptop, some even allow you to use it as a notebook (see Tablets under the Laptop Buying Guide). Laptops are also much less of a hassle to take home for breaks. Overall, the advantages of having a laptop mainly revolve around its size and portability.
Which one you pick depends on your situation. What are you going to use it for? How far do you have to travel to school? What does your budget look like?
For most students, especially freshmen, I would recommend a laptop over a desktop. Unless you’re a hardcore gamer or programmer, there isn’t a huge gap in performance between desktops and similarly priced laptops for everyday programs like Internet Explorer, Firefox, Word, Excel, IM and so on. Your dorm room most likely isn’t going to be huge, and a desktop will take up more space and be much more of a pain to move in and out. Also, laptop prices have been dropping recently, not quite to the level of desktop prices, but you can get a serviceable budget laptop for around $500. See our Laptop Buying Guide for details.

Acoustic guitars are some of the most beautiful instruments and can produce tantalizing music when learned to play properly. Most people who purchase guitars buy them with the intention to learn how to play them, but very few go on to become masters of the instrument. If you’re serious about learning how to play one, you should first learn how to buy one. Serious musicians just don’t buy their instruments from any music store – they learn what the best brands are, evaluate the sound qualities of each, and try the instruments before making an investment.
When buying a guitar, take an experienced player with you if possible. This way, your “personal guide” can evaluate the selection of guitars available and help you pick one that’s appropriate for your level of music education (you can always upgrade later as your skills improve). Without your own personal guide, you can ask for help from the store clerk. Music store clerks are hired based upon their knowledge of musical instruments. If you get help from a clerk, explain your skill level and price range.
Having a wide selection to choose from, try out different guitars by strumming them with a pick and wearing strap. If you’re not sure how to use a pick or wear a strap, the store clerk can help you do both. While you strum and pick each string of the guitar, you want to listen for a good quality sound. If you hear buzzing or any sounds coming from the guitar that you did not intend to make, look for a different one. A good guitar sound is pure and hollow. And if you have your “personal guide” with you, he or she can help you gauge the sound quality of each.
In addition to buying a guitar, browse through the selection of beginning guitar lessons books if available. Most music stores offer lesson books or even classes for those who want to learn to play their new purchases.

Have you ever wished to take a piano lesson to express yourself or to give vent to your deep feelings? From the various musical instruments available, piano lesson is a common choice due to its simpler learning process which does not require years of mastering if you wish to be just a naïve pianist. It is widely chosen by the professionals inspired by the piano’s ubiquity and versatility, combined with the piano keyboards enabling easy means to compose harmonic, and complex melodic interplays. Piano have the rare combination of the characteristics of both the stringed and percussion instruments. If you haven’t yet decided which musical instrument to start practicing, then the piano lesson is the suggested one if you are not particular.
The unfortunate part is that most of those who wish to take piano lessons are unable to allot time in their busy day-to-day schedule. But with the little guidance about saving your time in choosing the right teacher or piano lessons, it would make it easier to start practicing your dream musical instruments. The piano lessons can be taken up either online or the traditional face-to-face methodology. The choice lies with you as both the piano lessons are reliable and are effective in teaching their students the right steps to learn piano quickly; of course this stands good only for the ones doing their jobs passionately, sticking to their promises.
Here are the few tips to guide in choosing the piano lessons at relatively lesser fee. Looking out for the good piano lessons on your own may be very time consuming and futile in most of the cases. First check out for a good musical teacher providing piano lessons from your friends, local community college, or in the university or college which offers music course. There are several websites offering details of the online and offline piano lessons. There are also few music stores which offer piano lessons apart from many other musical courses. These were the tips to find the list of good piano lessons.
To find the most apt piano lessons to cater your needs, the following points must be kept in view while choosing. The piano lessons offered should provide consistent skill levels and not be disruptive ones like requiring you to buy new course materials each time you step into higher level. Evaluating the piano teacher based on their qualifications, the way they were trained etc will also be helpful in finding the potential piano lessons. Having a personal interview with the prospective teachers and even managing to view a piano lesson conducted by them before you join can give idea. Ask for the guarantee period for the piano lessons they provide both online and offline.
The combination of the different modes of piano lessons such as with the audio, video clips, and the text content will give you the best results in short durations. The piano lessons must be cautiously chosen as they affect your style of playing and progress.
